Established in the year 1964, Kamala Nehru College started with a vision of empowering women through higher education. Named after Smt Kamala Nehru, who played a significant role in the Indian Independence movement, the institution has always valued its commitment towards the enablement of women and the encouragement of their participation in national development. Just as Smt Kamala Nehru inspired women to exercise their will and join the Independence movement, the college has maintained its vision of providing a platform for women to raise their voices through the changing realities of India for more than six decades now. Our journey began with sixteen staff members and 209 students who graduated in the academic year 1967-68. Today, we boast of a thriving body of 155 teachers, 65 non-teaching staff members, and more than 3800 students, all of whom constitute our family.
Our campus boasts of an air-conditioned auditorium and two seminar halls, multiple ICT-enabled classrooms and three fully equipped computer labs. The college campus meets all accessibility norms and provides an inclusive space. Our state-of-the-art library, equipped with an elevator, houses valuable books and offers abundant reading and research space for teachers as well as students. We ensure consistent updated subscriptions from the DU Central Library and multiple other sources, so that our staff and students always have access to quality resources for academic research and growth.
Besides academic research, Kamala Nehru College encourages students to participate in co-curricular activities such as debates, seminars and quiz competitions, and also extra-curricular activities ranging from Indian and Western dance, Hindustani and Western Classical (and popular) music, street and proscenium theatre, contemporary choreography, fine arts, to photography and cinema screenings. Finding outlets for expression and exploration of their interests makes students more confident and aids in the development of their holistic personalities.
Aligned with NEP and its focus on skill development, we offer Skill Enhancement Courses (SECs) that enable our students to explore foundational avenues in diverse areas that shape their careers and equip them for future financial independence. Additionally, we offer Value Addition Courses (VACs) that are grounded in the furtherance of Indian Knowledge Systems and their relevance in the contemporary socio-cultural context.
We pride ourselves on the diversity of our student population and have committees for the redressal of their grievances, as well as societies for the exploration of their varied interests. Our students are our pride, and we do our best to make our campus a safe space for them, where they may freely express their existing worldview, as well as make room for varying perspectives. We welcome you all to join our family and start a memorable journey!
