“We read to know we’re not alone.” - C.S. Lewis
We read to escape reality, to challenge our perceptions and the way we see the world, we read to grow as a person, to be inspired. The Book Club looks to encourage all this by providing a space to talk about books, to interact with authors and support inclusive debates about books.
The Book Club’s proud initiative is its 'Open Library', the first of its kind in Delhi University, which opened in October 2013. The Open Library does not follow the rigid rules of a library and allows for an informal setting so that anyone may exchange or share books. It thus provides a physical and mental space for people to break away from college routine and pick up a book to delve into. It allows one to meet people with similar interests and taste, creating an intellectual and physical space that helps nurture the always-hungry souls of bibliophiles. An extension of the ‘Open Library’, the Book Club display rack in the college library with books from a range of topics aims to promote and to encourage readers to explore genres outside their usual picks. Via this we hope to make the experience of the library more pleasurable for the students of the college.
The Book Club regularly organizes author interactions and book readings. Over the last five years we’ve hosted authors as diverse as Anurag Garg, Kulpreet Yadav, Devapriya Roy, Anil Menon, Anjum Hasan, Sudipto Das, Aanchal Malhotra, and the female dastango duo Fauzia and Valentina, to name a few. In addition, the Club has also conducted workshops on creative writing. Book Club members have also actively volunteered at the World Book Fair.
