The students of the English Debating Society achieved laurels in a number of tournaments over the last year. They debated and adjudicated at competitions such as Shanti Narayan Memorial Parliamentary Debate (Hansraj College), KMC Fresher’s Debate Tournament, People Speak (Sri Venkateswara College), Wax Eloquent (Gargi College), GGS Fresher’s and, IIT-Delhi among others, in the months of January and February 2016. An outstation tournament at BITS Pillani, in February 2016, proved to be successful with Sheen Kaul, Shambhavi Shukla, Anushka Srivastva, Ayushi Saraf and Nishtha Gupta as adjudicators in the finals.
The debating season of academic year 2019-2020 began with, CBS Parliamentary Debate'19, where the Crossfire team comprising of Heba, Vaishnavi and Akshita qualified for the out-rounds and went on till Quarterfinals displaying a commendable performance. The novice debating season also saw stellar performance by the newly recruited members. At Speak Up'19, the Crossfire team consisting of Ananya, Tejasvita and AnshuPriya broke and went on till Pre-Quarters. Vaishnavi, Shivani and Kavya were declared as the Best Adjudicators and Damini was declared the third Best Adjudicator.
Our cross-institutional team at SLS Noida Parliamentary Debate'19, comprising of Vaishnavi, Damini and Bharat from from Sri Venkateswara College also performed excellently by qualifying first, and were declared Runners Up at the tournament. On the adjudication front, Shruti was declared the Best Adjudicator.
At the KMC Parliamentary Debate'19, Heba Rahman qualified as an Adjudicator and went on to adjudicate the Finals. At Gambit Parliamentary Debate'19, Shivani was declared the third Best Adjudicator, Kavya and Diya also qualified and went on to adjudicate till Semi-finals.
The Crossfire debating team comprising of Damini, Vaishnavi and Smriti(ex-member) showcased an excellent performance and were declared the Semi-finalists at DRC'19. The three members were also declared as the top 10 speakers at the tournament. Sanjula was declared the third Best Adjudicator and went on to adjudicate till the Quarters.
At IIT-Delhi Debutante'19, the team consisting of Srishti, Anshu and Smarika qualified third on tabs and went on to debate till the Quarters. On the adjudication front, Shivani was declared the Best Adjudicator and Maitreyi Pandey broke, both of whom went on to adjudicate finals.
At CVS, Knockout Parliamentary Debate'19, Devanshi was declared as 2nd Best Adjudicator. Hindu College hosted its annual prestigious Premchand Parliamentary Debate'19, where our cross-institutional teams comprising of Damini and Maitreyi, from Miranda, displayed a commendable performance and emerged as Semi-finalists. Our other cross team comprising of Vaishnavi and Sohini, from Sri Venkateswara College, also put forth a laudable performance and were the Quarter-finalists. Vaishnavi was the 5th best Speaker at the tournament.
