The Equal Opportunity Cell and Enabling Unit of Kamala Nehru College was established in the year 2004 with the goal of sensitizing the students towards disability and promoting justified equality. The Equal Opportunity Cell and Enabling Unit is committed to empowering students with disabilities and those belonging to marginalized sections of the society. Since its inception, the cell has been active in overseeing effective implementation of policies and programmes for disadvantaged groups. It provides academic, personal and psychosocial support and guidance services to differently-abled and underprivileged students. A dedicated room with computer facility is assigned for the functioning of day-to-day activities of the EOC and Enabling Unit. The EOC and Enabling Unit has been instrumental in providing facilities like computers with a Wi-Fi connection, Braille books and CDs on various subjects and the JAWS software, which reads out for the user and helps them overcome challenges in learning for students. The EOC and enabling unit also actively organizes welfare remedial classes and skill enhancement workshops for the differently-abled and economically weaker students. Further, members have been visiting National Association for the Blind regularly and providing assistance to them through various different activities like teaching computers, reading for the students, and being scribes for them. The Equal Opportunity Cell and Enabling Unit organizes numerous talks, seminars, and workshops on the topics of disability and marginalization to sensitize students, faculty and society to the issues related to differently abled people. The cell aims to continue its efforts to provide equal opportunities to its students and spread awareness in the society through outreach programs and lectures.
